Aledo, Ill., Dec. 25. - George Boone, a veteran of the Civil war and pioneer resident of Mercer county, died at his home on West Sixth street at noon Thursday, after a few weeks' illness with pneumonia.
George Boone, son of Mr. and Mrs. Hezekiah Boone, was born on Feb. 22, 1837 in Medina county, Ohio, and came with his parents to the southern part of Illinois in 1847 and in 1850 the family came to Mercer county before the city of Aledo was laid out. They lived in a log cabin a few miles west of what is now Aledo.
Mr. Boone and Mrs. Nancy Ann Sherer-Fullerton were married in Rock Island, Nov. 28, 1865. They celebrated there 50th wedding anniversary a few weeks ago. They lived on a farm a few miles west of the city from the time of their marriage until six years ago when he gave up farming and came to Aledo to live.
He enlisted early during the Civil war as a private in Company L, 17th Illinois infanty, and later was given a commission as lieutenant in Company F, 114th Illinois volunteer infantry and served until the close of the war.
Mr. Boone was a successful farmer and a man highly respected by his large circle of friends. He is survived by his wife, one daughter, Mrs. Henry Zentmire of Sioux City, Iowa, one step-daughter, Mrs. Amos Kiddoo of Oklahoma, his twin brother, Washington Boone, and one sister, Mrs. Theodore Day, both of this city, besides many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at the First Presbyterian church at 2 o'clock unday afternoon, Dec. 26, conducted by Rev. A. C. Moody. Interment will be in Aledo cemetery.
