Ranton Rhodes, 89 of Normangee, passed away on April 3, 2012 in Groesbeck, Texas. Funeral services have scheduled for 2 pm, Friday, April 6, 2012 at the Madisonville Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Williams-Bethesda Cemetery in Leon County near Normangee. Madisonville Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Pallbearers are Johnny Powell, Tom Lee, Charles Graham, Bill Shreckengaust, Ed Hughes and Gary Adams.
Visitation hours will be from 10 am to service time on Friday at the funeral home.
Ranton Rhodes was born in Palmer, Texas on March 29, 1923 to Marshall & Blanche Rhodes. He had lived in Normangee since 1982 and had previously lived in Houston. Mr. Rhodes had worked as a superintendent in the construction business and built several buildings at Texas A. & M. and the Normangee Schools. He was an excellent craftsman. His hobbies included fishing and golfing, but he also liked to play dominos which he continued to play while at the nursing home. Mr. Rhodes was a 50 year member of the Masonic Lodge #540 at Rogers Prairie and was also a Shriner. Mr. Rhodes also serve in the US Army Air Forces during World War II with the 356 Bombardment Squadron and the 331 Bombardment Group. He attended church at the Hilltop Lakes Chapel.
Mr. Rhodes was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Bernice Rhodes.
He is survived by two daughters, Darla Giles & husband, Norman of Normangee, Texas, Linda Buckalew of Baytown, Texas; a sister, Wynelle Shipp of Conroe, Texas; four grandchildren, Norman Ray Giles, Sr. of Houston, Texas, Angela Bernice West & husband, Billy of Channelview, Texas, Brent Lamar Buckalew & wife, Jeanette of Georgetown, Indiana, Melody Lynette Metz of Kirbyville, Texas; 10 great grandchildren, Norman Giles, "Jr.", Natasia Giles, Brandi Giles, AnJanet West, Ciara West, Ashton Kruse, Dalton Odom, Meaghan Buckalew, Jeremy Buckalew and Emma Grace Buckalew.
