He served in the U.S. Navy in WWII aboard the USS Makin Island. He also served in the Korean Conflict aboard the USS Curtis.
He was a life member of the American Legion and charter member of Post #77 in Waveland, Mississippi. As an avid golfer, he was a member of the Pass Christian Isles Golf Club. He was a longtime member of the Lutheran Church of the Pines in Waveland.
