OBITUARY, Anderson Herald, Tuesday, August 24, 1954:
Mrs. Ellen (Mom) Smith, 73, expired at 1 a.m. Sunday at the home of a grandson, Robert L. Campbell, 326 Central Ave., following an illness of six weeks. Mr. Campbell is a detective on the Anderson Police Force.
The body was taken to the Sells and Rowe Funeral Home where services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday with the Rev. Clark Myers, pastor of the Park Place Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will occur in Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends will be received at the funeral home after noon today.
Mrs. Smith was born June 16, 1881, in Rush County, the daughter of Frank and Ella [sic] Croddy. She came to Anderson 27 years ago and for the past several years had made her home with her grandson.
Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Alberta Moats, Peoria, Ill., and Mrs. Margaret Campbell, Phoenix, Ariz.; a son, M. Dale Smith, North Hollywood, Calif.; four grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
