Edward's parents were Archibald Gamel and Eliza Tate-Gamel. Edward married Cynthia Ann Millage April 1, 1866, in Henderson County, Illinois they had 7 children: Harvey Sanford, Nellie G., Edward Eugene, Francis, Cora Elizabeth, Clarence Willis and John Samuel. Cynthia died in 1900. During Edward's lifetime he was a teamster (drove a horse drawn wagon), farmer, odd jobs, and finally in his senior years brewed herbal remedies from his home in Bloomfield Nebraska and was known as Doc Gamel (Gamble). In the Bloomfield Centenial's memories he is mentioned for his medical remedies and how they were requested statewide and into Iowa. The Bloomfield Pharmacy continued to supply his remedies long after his death until the ingrediants (natural Herbs) could no longer be used. Edward is buried next to his mother Eliza in the Bloomfield Cemetery, there is no headstone for him. The cemetery listing shows his name as W.D. Gamel. Edward had one brother William P. Gamel he is buried in Sioux City Iowa (Floyd Cemetery).
