Iva Jean Salley Hicks, 86, of East Carters Valley passed away Friday, July 8, 2011 at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center unexpectedly.
Born in Sullivan County and lived most of her life in Scott County, VA. She attended Dobyns Bennett High School. She was a former member of Fellowship Freewill Baptist Church for many years, at the time of her death she was a member of Kingsley United Methodist Church. She sang with the Salley Quartet for years.
She was preceded in death by her husband of over 59 years, Charles Lyman Hicks in 2002; infant son, Walter Claude Hicks in 1947; her parents, Claude Salley and Lena Goodin Salley; two sisters, Annis Ketron and Lucille Carr; three brothers, Edgar Salley, twins, coach James W. "J.W." Salley and Rev. David W."D.W." Salley.
She is survived by her daughter, Glenna Hicks Parker and husband, Darrell of Kingsport; three sons, Charles Lyman Hicks, Jr and wife, Angela of Gate City, VA, Fred Hicks and wife, Cindy of Gate City, VA (East Carters Valley) and Richard Lynn Hicks and wife Joette of Katy, TX; ten grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren; two brothers, Mervin Salley and wife, Lil of Kingsport and Don Salley of Kingsport.
The family will receive friends from 2 pm to 4 pm on Wednesday July 13, 2011 at Fellowship Freewill Baptist Church 2313 Portland Avenue, Kingsport, TN, 37660.
A service will follow at 4 pm at the church with Rev. Ray Amos, Rev. Jeff Davis and Rev. Joe Barber officiating. Burial will follow at Arcadia United Methodist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Kevin Hicks, Charlie Hicks, Freddie Hicks, Robbie Hicks, Chris Parker, Jon Parker, Robby Bates, Brian Parker and Justin Hilton.
Carter-Trent Funeral Home, downtown Kingsport is serving the Hicks family.
