Garner, N.C. - Bruce Raymond Barmes, 84, went to be with our Lord on Saturday, Jan. 25, 2014, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born in Vincennes to the late Raymond C. and Esther Sannaman Barmes.
Bruce served in the U.S. Air Force from 1947 to 1949 and he played professional baseball from 1950 until 1960. He retired in 1991 from Martin Marietta.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Barbara York Barmes; his children, Judy Barmes Rucker and her husband, Joe, of Garner, and Brian J. Barmes of Davidson; six grandsons and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his son, Steve Barmes.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home Chapel in Garner. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until the hour of service Wednesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be sent to Barmes Scholarship at Lincoln Christian University, 100 Campus View Drive, Lincoln, IL 62656. (submitted by contributor Rhonda Lauer)
