Dorothy McCartney
Dorothy Ethel McCartney of Bellingham, Wash., died Saturday, June 8, 1996.
Mrs. McCartney was born Feb. 4, 1913, to Charles and Emmaline Peterson in Moscow, Idaho. She graduated from Lewiston Normal School with a teaching degree in 1932 and taught for two years in a one-room schoolhouse.
In 1937, she married Truman McCartney and moved to his ranch in Red Bluff. During World War II, she worked for Boeing Aircraft in Seattle, Wash., building military aircraft.
The McCartneys also lived at military bases in Alaska [ Eielson AFB ], Bermuda, Tripoli, Libya [ Wheelus AFB ] and Mountain Home, Idaho, before retiring to Bellingham in 1971.
Mrs. McCartney was active in the Grange, the Methodist church, Bellingham Senior Center and Senior Trailblazers.
Surviving are: daughters Babs Kobersteen and Leone Moena [ Carole L. ] and son John McCartney, all of Bellingham; brother Lloyd Peterson of Seattle; three grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by husband Truman in 1984 and sister Aileen Palmer.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. June 15 at Garden Street United Methodist Church in Bellingham.
