Alice Inger Allair July 10, 1918 - February 28, 2008 Passed away in San Rafael, California. Among her many pleasures was a good burger, music, coffee, men, cats, literature, English mystery writers and their countryside, poetry, travel, theatre, a well-cut suit, a dry, dry martini, and a clever tongue. She knew all the Great American Songbook lyrics, and sang every one of them on key. Everything she cooked tasted great. She could clean house, concoct a buffet, and launch the party all in a day. She was intelligent, kind and funny. In the last few hours of her life, she still greeted visitors with her old familiar, "hello, darling," which remained lilting, light and expectant. A Marin County resident for over 50 years and a Dixie School District employee for many of them, Alice was among the founders, and first site director of the old Dixie Schoolhouse. She undertook salvaging the old building, and guided its renovation and establishment as a historic county landmark. The widow of Christopher John, she is survived by her children, John, Christie and Michael; grandchildren, Matthew, Nicholle, Raina and Hilary. A Memorial service will be held on April 24th, 11 a.m., at Christ Presbyterian Church in Terra Linda. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the church, the Dixie Schoolhouse Foundation or the Carmelite Monastery in San Rafael.
