From the book "An Illustrated History of the State of Washington", comes an entry for James Fudge on page 606, who was the son of Adam and Catherine Whiteaker Fudge. It mentions James father, Adam Fudge. See the following paragraph:

In March 1848, Adam went to California, where he was among the early gold hunters, mining near Sutter's Mill. After saving about $1500.00, he started home on a sailing vessel, and was 22 days in reaching the mouth of the Columbia River from San Francisco CA. He died there, without seeing his family. July 4, 1848 and was buried at Astoria, Clatsop County, Oregon. There are a few cemeteries in Astoria were he could be buried. My guess is the Astoria Pioneer Cemetery. I will try and see if there is a historical society in the area that might have some records.

I cannot find any cemetery for him at this time. 2-3-2012
