In Loving Memory of Edith Jarvis lovingly known as "Nams"

Edith Franklin was born in Williams, Oklahoma to Thomas and Laura Franklin. She was the 12th child out of 13 children born to Laura and Thomas. She was born on May 25, 1909. Edith passed away on August 19, 2006 at the age of 97 years old. She was the longest living member of her family. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Bill Chandler in April 1960, second husband, Olsen Jarvis in December 2004. Her first born infant child in September 1926 and her great-grandson, Michael Fresenius in January 1985.

She lived a very long and happy life. Edith lived in Oklahoma, Texas, and most of her married life in California. Edith married William Chandler in November 1925 and had a son, Bill Chandler born on November 4, 1928 and her daughter, Joy Fresenius born on October 16, 1932. She was married to Bill Chandler for almost 35 years and remarried Olsen Jarvis in 1966 until he passed away in December 2004. They were married for 38 years. Edith was a woman of faith and belonged to Mid Cities Baptist Church until her death at age 97. She continued as an active member with Jarvis participating in bible study every Sunday morning, even after his death.

Edith was very much a family woman. She loved her family immensely. She always looked forward to the next family gathering. With her family growing, so did the get together. Her family would look forward to many special dinners with Edith, but especially when she offered to make her famous fried chicken, which she cooked for hours with so much love even into her late 90's. Family members tried to copy her recipe and couldn't make it like Edith. Her famous cole slaw, creamed corn, corn bread, and apricot pies for her son-in-law, most recently in June, which was the one thing Bob refused to share.

Edith Franklin Chandler-Jarvis is survived by her son, Bill Chandler of Chico, CA, her daughter and son-in-law, Joy and Bob Fresenius of Rancho Palos Verdes, CA. She was a loving grandmother to Deborah McKie of Lakewood, CA, Michael Fresenius of Glendale, AZ, David and Lynda Fresenius of Westminster, CA, Steve and Theresa Fresenius of Seal Beach, CA and Clinton Chandler of Chico, CA. She was a loving great-grandmother to Alicia McKie, Joy Hardeman, Chelsey McKie, Matthew, David Heidi, Bobby, Kelli, Steve, Courtney, and Cody Fresenius and Katie Chandler and loving great-great grandmother to Elijah Garba.

Mother

For as long as I can remember...
You were always by my side,
To give me support, confidence and help.

For as long as I can remember...
You were always the person I looked up to,
So strong, so sensitive, so pretty.

For as long as I can remember...
You always provided stability within our family,
Full of laughter, full of tears, and especially full of love.

For as long as I can remember...
As still today,
You are everything a mother should be.

Whatever I have become is because of you...
And I thank you forever for our relationship.

We love you mom.
Your daughter, Joy, and your son, Bill.

In Memory of our Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother and Great-Great Grandmother

We can never be separated
from those we love
because God leaves us
with memories to hold
and love that doesn't pass away
And in time we realize
that our love one lives on
not only in our home
beyond the setting sun
but within our hearts.
