World War I U.S. Army Veteran. He enlisted into the service on May 9, 1917 and served as a Private First Class in Company D, 2nd Engineers, 2nd Infantry Division. He was killed in action fighting near Lucy, France, on the Marne Front. His body was buried in a common grave with many of his fellow soldiers and never recovered. American Legion Post 66, was named in his honor being he was the first Washington County man killed in action in World War I.
