YORK, PA. John Anthony "Tony" Brogan, 53, died on Aug. 2.

Born in Washington, D.C. on April 5, 1956, he grew up in Ridgewood, graduated Mt. Carmel School in Ridgewood in 1970, St. Joseph's High School in Montvale in 1974, Franklin and Marshall College in Lancaster Pa. with honors in 1978, and New York Law School in 1981. He was a Latin Speaking Altar Boy, an Eagle Scout, an honor roll student, a licensed Gettysburg Battlefield guide and attorney. He had a wide range of interests including the Civil War, 1950's culture, the Vietnam Conflict, music, movies and vintage cars.

He is survived by his stepmother, June Brogan of Wyckoff; his grandfather, George Shealer; his "aunt," Martha Strausbaugh of Gettysburg, Pa.; his siblings, Kathleen Miller and husband Harvey of Reno, Nev. and Ann and husband Allen Barbi of Dover N.H.; his uncle and aunt, John A. and Didi Brogan; his cousin, Jeannette Beissel of Satzvey, Germany; and his in-laws, Glenn, MaryAnne, Jeff and Cara Barbi of Hillsdale. He was predeceased by his parents, J. Ferris Brogan of Wyckoff and Patricia Sponsler Brogan of Gettysburg, Pa.; his grandparents, John A. Brogan, Jr. and Marie Ferris Brogan formerly of Ridgewood, New York City and Spring Lake; his grandmother, Bea Shealer; and his grandparents, Victor and Marie Sponsler of Md.

A memorial service was held on Sept. 11 at the Brethren in Christ Church in Hanover, Pa., followed by a scattering of ashes on the Gettysburg Battlefield.
Cremated, Ashes scattered.
