John E. Bruno

John E. Bruno passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, July 21, 2010.

John Everett Bruno was born November 26, 1951, to Everett W. and Ruby M. Bruno in California, MO. His father was a topographical engineer and surveyor with the U.S. Geological Survey and so the family moved frequently. From the time he was born until he graduated from high school, John moved over 30 times. John attended the University of Oklahoma where he met his wife, Elaine, in 1971. He graduated with a BBA in accounting in 1974, attained his CPA certificate in 1976 and earned an MBA from OU in 1978.

In 1974 John began work as an accountant in the oil and gas industry with Apco Oil. In 1978 he joined Texas International Petroleum Co., which later became Phoenix Resources, and became Controller and VP of Accounting. In 1985 John accepted an assignment with Phoenix in Cairo, Egypt, where he was Finance General Manager for the Egyptian operations. In 1990 Phoenix discovered the most prolific oil well (at the time) in the Western Desert of Egypt, and soon after Phoenix was acquired by Apache Corp. John continued to work in Egypt for Apache and in 1995 he retired and relocated to Texas.

John and Elaine have also lived in the Tishomingo Okla., area. John was an active supporter of CPASA and TREES and was dedicated to the protection and preservation of nature.

John and Elaine have two sons, Jesse and his wife, Sunanda, Denton, Texas, John Paul and his wife, Rachael, Tulsa with their daughter, Esme. John’s older sister Mary and her family live in Johnston, Iowa, and his younger sister Janet and her family live in Jacksonville, Texas.

In lieu of a memorial, John asked for those who wished to pay respects should, at their convenience, go to a river, creek, or lake and observe 15 minutes of silence while marveling at the wonders of nature.

In lieu of flowers, John asked for those who wished to donate to Tishomingo Refuge Ecology and Education Society (TREES). www.treesok.org, for the annual kids; fishing derby; or to the Nature Conservancy Oklahoma for the Blue River protection project.
