Lucy Melissa was born to Agnes Suzannah Davis (unknown if this was bio parents or adopted parents surname)and Mr Calton (first name unknown)in Yadkin, Cleveland County, North Carolina. She was one of two children born to this union. She also had a brother, Garfield, who was disabled and died at the tender age of seven.

She married three times. First was to William Lewis Sparks, about 1891 in North Carolina. One son was born to this union, Luther Clifton. As there is no date of death for Mr Sparks, it can be assumed that they divorced.

Second was James Isom Hardy on April 30, 1906, in Grayson County, Virginia. Eleven children were born to this union, four boys and seven girls. They were Robert Vincent, Carrie Camiel, James W, Lucy Leona, Thelma Lorean, Juana Leona, Jennie Sue, Sibbie Pauline, Charles Thomas, James Isom Jr, and Elizabeth. James Isom died in 1934.

Third was Will E Reed on May 15, 1938 in Tipton County, Tennessee. There were no children from this union, and he died 12 October 1947 in Tipton County, Tennessee.

She spent her finals days in the home of daughter, Lucy Leona Moore, in Wagoner, Oklahoma. This is where she was when she died. She was buried in the Pleasant Ridge MethodistbChurch Cemetery in Lucy, Tennessee. There is no stone to mark the grave.
