Enlisted in the U.S. Army 11 Jul 1928 at Fort Thomas, KY and was honorably discharged 7 Aug 1929 at Fort Benjamin Harrison, IN. From 1930 to 1939 he was in and out of the KY National Guard in Carlisle, KY three different times. In 1938, he was a Corporal in Howitzer Co., 149th Infantry, KYNG in Carlisle. Served in the KYNG in Lexington, KY from about 1956 until May 1969, and received a full retirement.

Employed about 1942 at Lexington-Blue Grass Army Depot, Lexington, KY and worked there until he retired.
