Irma Cecilia HAYES was a music teacher. She was the youngest of six children. She was baptised 13 Sept 1883 at the Old Catholic Cathedral in Vincennes, Indiana and appears in her parents' household in the 1900 census. At the age of 22, she eloped with Edward Kirby HERTFORD. They were married 23 Jan 1905 Daviess County, Indiana. The same year, they moved to Charleston, Kanawha, West Virginia and were living there when her brother John HAYES died 16 May 1908. Next they moved to Salt Lake City, Utah where her first son, the dentist Edward Kirby HERTFORD, was born. The family appears here in the 1910 census.

Hertford has but recently become a resident of Salt Lake City, having come here to join her husband who is connected with the Rocky Mountain Bell Telephone company. Mrs. Hertford is a native of Indiana. She has held a prominent place in musical circles in her home state and has had fine training in vocal and instrumental music under some of the great teachers and in the leading American conservatories."
After a brief stint in Baltimore, Maryland, by 1913, the family had moved to Riverside, California. Her second son, Hayes HERTFORD, was born in Riverside in 1913. Edward and Irma were divorced about 1915-1916, each raising one of their sons (Edward with Edward, and Hayes with Irma. Irma remarried Frank TEGGART 28 Jun 1930 at the Samarkand Hotel, Santa Barbara, CA. They appear in the censuses for Riverside, CA in 1930, 1935, and 1940. Irma died of a stroke and is buried next to Frank TEGGART.
