FROM DAUGHTER LYDE ANN GRAHAM'S GENEALOGY:
"My own father [Mathias Graham] was a strong Abolitionist before it was thought safe to acknowledge it. My mother's people were Lutherans, but when my father and mother were married, they first united with the Methodist church but soon were emmersed [immersed] in the Baptist church. My father was a deacon in the Baptist church for 40 years. They were a happy couple with six children to outlive them, and they had the joy of seeing them all Christians. They buried a little boy and girl in infancy. My father was full of life and fun until the day before his sudden death. My mother was a great sufferer for many months before her death, which occurred nearly 10 years before my father was called. She had been a devout Christian all her life."
