William McDaniel Brewer, known as "Dan" Brewer, was born in AL, possibly in Covington or in Dale County, but grew up in Coffee and Covington County. He was the son of Maston Pickett (various spellings) Brewer and his wife, the former Rebecca Ann English.

He is found listed as age 1 on the 1870 Dale Co, AL census, pg 257; with his parents listed as Pickett Brewer age 22 and wife Rebecca age 30. On the 1880 Covington Co., AL census, his parents were listed as Maston T. (age 28) and Rebecca (age 38) but in other later records, she had miraculously become only 5 years older than him. [But both their ages varied across various census records.] In 1890, Maston P. Brewer homesteaded 161 acres of land in the Antioch Township. In 1891, he was issued a patent for 161.5 acres in Covington county just south of Rose Hill. So William McDaniel Brewer likely spent at least 10-15 years living in Covington County.

Dan married Nancy Ellen Helms, likely in Covington County, AL where both their parents lived at that time. (No marriage record found yet, but if anyone has found the date, please contact me.) Based on the birth of their first child, the 1900 Coffee Co., AL census estimates their marriage at 1887. Both had Grandparents & other family in Coffee County, and they lived in Coffee County for a while, before moving back to Covington County near Antioch/Harmony. Around 1905, Dan and Ellen Brewer are said to have moved their family to the vicinity of Milton, FL and lived out the rest of their lives in Santa Rosa County, FL. On the 1900 Census in Coffee County, AL it lists William McDaniel Brewer's birth date as April, 1870.

The transcription of his Santa Rosa Co., FL Death Certificate contains some known errors, but it does list his name as William Mcd. Brewer. It lists his wife's name as Elizabeth, which may or may not be one of his wife's given names.

[Note: The cemetery was named Hickory Hammock when he and his wife were buried there, but the cemetery name has since been changed.]
