Phyllis M. Cunningham Stanton Higginbotham (1918-2007) Australia/AZ
Phyllis M. Higginbotham June 7, 1918 - May 19, 2007 Phyllis M. Higginbotham of Phoenix, Arizona, passed away on May 19, 2007. She was born on June 7, 1918 in Brisbane, Australia. Phyllis was known to all her family and friends as "Peggy". She was an Australian beauty who arrived on our American Shores in 1944 during the height of World War II after marrying an American Sailor named Sandy Stanton. She was spunky and adventurous and looked forward to her new home in America. Her ship was attacked twice during her voyage but she never looked back. She gave birth to her first son, Gary, soon after her arrival in 1944. The family settled in Los Angeles, California in 1946 where she bore a daughter, Joy, in 1948. She married Jeff Higginbotham in 1953 and gave birth to another son, Dana. She enjoyed Jeff's two sons, Michael and Jeffery, as part of her family. She had an amazing gift for sewing formal attire and costumes and during the 1950's she sewed for many movie stars including Roy Rogers. In 1960, the family moved to Phoenix. She was a fantastic waitress and was a top performer in the Club House at Turf Paradise Race Way for over a decade. Her family was her hobby. She had ten grandchildren (Jennifer, Scotty, Tammy, Tory, Elena, Dena, Paulena, John Paul, Joy Lorelle and Robbie). She had seven great grandchildren and one great, great grandchild. She personally helped raise Joy Lorelle and Robbie and never missed a school or sports event. She loved her freedom and independence and was still able to drive at 89 years. Her dear friends, Pat and Paul York, were always there to assist her; but she loved doing everything "her way". We love and miss you. Your loving family and friends. A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, May 24th at 7:00 P.M. at Messinger Pinnacle Peak Mortuary, 8555 E. Pinnacle Peak Rd., Scottsdale.
