Rev. Clarence H. Drake went to be with the Lord on Dec. 22, 2005, following a battle with cancer.
His life verse is "But none of these things move me, neither count I my life dear unto myself; so that I might finish my course with joy, and the ministry, which I have received of the Lord Jesus, to testify the gospel of the grace of God." (Acts 20:24)
Rev. Drake was born on March 4, 1922, in Akron, Ohio. He is survived by his wife, Frances Carmichael Drake of Conyers, Ga.; three daughters, Sara Swanson of Decatur, Ga., Susan Nielsen and husband of Germantown, Tenn., Kathy Polk and husband of Conyers, Ga.; and son, Geoffrey Drake and wife of Conyers; and 3 grandchildren. He is also survived by two sisters, Eva Kinsinger of Fort Myers, Fla., and Evelyn Rose of Tallmadge, Ohio; a niece; two nephews; and other relatives. After graduation, from Nyack College, a school of the Christian & Missionary Alliance (C&MA), in 1943, he began his ministry as an assistant pastor in Durham, NC, in a C&MA church. He continued his studies, attending Duke University and Rollins College, while serving as assistant pastor in local C&MA churches. In 1945, Rev. Drake accepted the call to pastor the East Lake Tabernacle in Atlanta, Ga., where he met his future wife. Over the next 55 years, the Lord led him to minister in, churches in St Petersburg, Fla.; Atlanta, Ga.; Nyack, N.Y.; Decatur, Ga.; Conyers, Ga.; Dallas, Texas; and Ormond Beach, Fla. After his retirement in 2001, Rev. Drake and his wife, Frances, moved to Conyers to be near most of his family.
A memorial service and reception to celebrate the life of Clarence Drake is to be held at Smyrna Presbyterian Church on Highway 212 in Conyers, Ga., today, Dec. 23, 2005, at 2 p.m. The Revs. David Hayes and Glen Buzbee will be officiating. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Vietnamese Ministry of Smyrna Presbyterian Church, 2920 Highway 212, Conyers, GA 50094, 770-483-8962. Horis A.
