Ruth Hale Cady was born near Macksburg, Ohio, She moved with her parents to Marietta, Ohio, to attend high school. She was the wife of (James) Floyd Cady and they lived in Newport, Ohio, where she taught for many years in Newport's elementary school. After Floyd died, she moved to Oxford, MS, to live near her sister, Inez Hale Happ. She died there in a nursing home.
