Claire Kelton Coble of Nashville, Tenn., devoted wife, mother and grandmother, born June 27, 1930, in Corsicana, died peacefully April 20, 2010.

Preceded in death by her parents, Dr. and Mrs. Leslie E. Kelton Jr., Mrs. Coble is survived by her devoted and loving husband of 60 years, Neely B. Coble Jr.; her brother, Leslie E. Kelton III (Cissy); and two sisters, Carrolyn K. Rice and Elizabeth K. Stafford of Dallas. Mrs. Coble's family also includes her children in Nashville, Neely B Coble III (Sally) and Leslie D. Coble (Elizabeth) and daughter in New Orleans, Carro Coble Gardner (Billy), along with grandchildren, Neely B Coble IV (Lauren), Edward C. Coble, Olivia Coble, Stella Coble, Daviss Coble, Cheney Gardner, Russell Gardner and Annalee Gardner.

After attending Corsicana High School, Mrs. Coble graduated from Ward Belmont College before marrying Neely Coble in 1949. She became an active volunteer and generous supporter of numerous charitable and educational organizations in Nashville. Mrs. Coble was active in the parent associations of Ensworth School, Harpeth Hall School and Montgomery Bell Academy. For years she was a member of First Presbyterian Church, the Junior League of Nashville, The Centennial Club and Stoneycrest Garden Club. She was co-chairman of the Swan Ball-Cheekwood in 1978, was a past regent of the General James Roberston Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution and was an early supporter of the Nashville Children's Theater. In her leisure time, Mrs. Coble was an avid gardener and enjoyed international travel. The family extends appreciation to Betty Kimbrough, Rose Pickens and Charlene Minnifee for their attentive care over the years.

Her sons, son-in-law and grandsons will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive visitors from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, April 23, in the Cheek House of First Presbyterian Church, 4815 Franklin Road, Nashville. Funeral service to follow at 1 p.m.
