It is not known precisely where Jacob is buried. He can't be located in any of the cemeteries where his children are buried. Family oral history has it that he was buried "in the country" of Iredell County. However other records suggest he died in Yadkin County, North Carolina.
Jacob and his fourth wife, Mary, separated and Mary took her two living Crater children with her and moved into Statesville, Iredell County, North Carolina. If anyone knows any additional information, please contact me.
Jacob married first to Sarah Wesner/Weisner (1805-c1843) on 09 Dec 1823 at Salem, Stokes (now Forsyth) County, North Carolina. Jacob and Sarah were the parents of nine known children, namely:
1. Regina Lisette Crater White (1824-1902)
2. Malvina Maria Crater (1826-1827)
3. Sanford Sylvester Crater (1828-1913)
4. Polina Crater White (1830-1872)
5. Sylvanus Timotheus Crater (1832-1887)
6. Jacob Jeremiah Crater (1834-1920)
7. Rufus Weisner Crater (1836-1926)
8. Sarah C. Crater Reddick (1939-1926)
9. Abigail Crater Gatton (1841-1912)
After Sarah died, Jacob remarried to Sarah's elder sister, the widow Maria Katherine (went by Katy) Wesner/Weisner Hier (1802-c1853) on 19 Aug 1844 at Davidson County, North Carolina. Jacob moved his family from Davidson County, North Carolina to Iredell County, North Carolina in 1845. Jacob was a mill owner and set up a grist mill to grind wheat to the finess needed for bread. His was the only mill in the area capable of doing this. Jacob and Katy were the parents of one known child, namely:
10. John W. Crater (1846-p1850)
Some records say Sarah and Katy were the daughters of Joseph Micajah Weisner (1805-1898) and Sarah Gooch Crews Weisner (1813-1885). Other records show them as the daughters of Andreas (Andrew) Wesner (1773-1823) and Mary Catharina (went by Catharina) Fischer (1769 (or 1764?)-1839), who married 14 Oct 1794 at Rowan (now Davidson) County, North Carolina. Can anyone verify either set of parents?
After Katy died, Jacob remarried to Rebecca F. Holton (1825-1864) on 07 Dec 1854 at Iredell County, North Carolina. Jacob and Rebecca were the parents of one known child, namely:
11. Jesse Holton Crater (1858-1931)
After Rebecca died, Jacob remarried to Mary Elizabeth Wesner/Weisner (1833-1919) in c1864-1865 at perhaps Iredell County, North Carolina. Jacob and Mary were the parents of four children, of whom only two are known, namely:
12. Charles Calhoun Crater (1865-1931)
13. George Bolivia (Bolivar?) Crater (1871-1962)
It is not known where any of Jacob's first three wives wives are buried, just his fourth wife.
Links to Jacob's parents, his fourth known wife, eleven of his fifteen known children and seven of his eight known siblings are included below.
