Jacob Gray and Mary S. Gray purchased land in Kendall Co., IL in 1843.
A very small cemetery was re-discovered a few years ago on land near Aurora, purchased 19 March 1841 by Jacob; he no longer owned it at the time of his death, however. Only one interment was marked, and was moved. The other remains were removed and are stored by the state of Illinois, in Springfield.
Another possible burial site - also destroyed - would be the original Catholic cemetery in Aurora. (As of 28 May 2014, I am working on proving its existence & location; most likely in the area bounded by Illinois, Broadway & Aurora avenues in Aurora, extant from about 1849/50 to between 1867/71.) However, there is no evidence that Jacob himself was ever a member of the Catholic church. Third wife Eliza was, and the children of her subsequent marriage were raised in the church, although their father does not seem to have been Catholic, either.
One volunteer gave the information that Jacob Gray, 1793-1862, was buried at Mount Carmel Cemetery, Hillside, Cook, Illinois, plot: Section 28, Block 3, Lot 123 [no marker]; however, another volunteer has found that this is not the same Jacob Gray. So this memorial has been removed from Mt. Carmel.
