Joseph was commissioned as an Ensign on February 8, 1747/1748 in a voluntary regiment from Chester County for the French Indian War. The county 'was not the seat of active operations'.
He married 2nd in a Quaker Ceremony on May 8, 1761 a widow, Mrs. Lydia Reynolds Townsend. After she died, he married on August 21, 1776 Ann Sharpless, widow of Jacob Sharpless, and daughter of Charles & Susanna Blakey.
Minutes of Quaker Chester Monthly Meeting reported Joseph Talbot, Sr. was disowned by the Meeting on Dec. 31, 1781 for paying "Taxes for Military Purposes". The membership application submitted by a descendant in 1970 for Sons of the American Revolution (S.A.R.) was based upon the Quaker records.
Joseph died in Aston Township, Chester, Pennsylvania before his will was proven on July 11, 1783. He was probably buried in a cemetery now located in Delaware County, Pennsylvania.
