William Kew, 61, Died Last Week
William Kew, age 61, a resident of the Alexander vicinity for nearly 40 years, died Wednesday of last week at Belmond Community hospital. He had farmed in the Alexander area until retirement in 1953.
Born at Westhulter, Lincolnshire, England, on May 1, 1896, he was the son of John and Elizabeth Kew. He lived through early manhood in England and served 2 ½ years in the British Army during World War I.
Soon after his discharge from military duty he came to the United States, settling near Alexander, Iowa. In 1927 he was wed to Jennie Root and three sons were born to them.
His wife, parents and a brother preceded him in death. Surviving are his children: Leland, Peoria, Ill.; Kermit, Alexander, Iowa; and Eldon, Iowa City.
Also surviving are four grandchildren, five sisters and four brothers.
