Kate Leigh Chapman, age 22 of Calhoun, passed away on Sunday, March 20, 2016 due to injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

Kate was born on August 30, 1993 in Atlanta, GA to Kent Lee Chapman and Julie Leonard Chapman. She was a member of Calhoun First United Methodist Church and attended Rock Bridge Community Church. Kate was an Alumna of Calhoun High School and also an Alumna of GA Southern University. She was preceded in death by her great-grandparents, Fields W. and Elsie Mae Chapman, Ike and Kate Leonard, Charlie and Nancy Reynolds, and Clyde and Leavta Westmoreland.

Kate was a beautiful, vivacious, positive young woman who loved her family and friends. She recently moved back to Calhoun to work with her father at his State Farm Agency and to be supportive and close to her family. While at Calhoun High School she was a majorette with the Calhoun High School Marching Yellow Jackets, and was voted Homecoming Queen her Senior Year. Kate graduated from Georgia Southern University in 2015 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Fashion Merchandising and Apparel Design and with a Minor in Public Relations. She was a proud member of Southern Pride Marching Band as a Majorette from Fall 2011 – Spring 2014, serving as Captain in 2013. Kate was a member of Phi Upsilon Omicron National Honor Society, Sigma Alpha Pi, Gamma Beta Phi Society, Honor and Service Organization. The summer before her Senior year she participated in the AFIS Fashion Marketing and Merchandising Study Abroad Program in London, Paris, Milan and Florence. After graduation from Georgia Southern University Kate worked in New York with PR Consulting and later with SEG Promotions in Dunwoody, GA.

She is survived by her parents, Kent and Julie Chapman of Calhoun; brother, Fields Chapman of Calhoun; grandparents, Harlan and Doris Chapman of Dalton, and John and Buna Leonard of Dalton; aunts, Kay Humble and her husband Charlie of Buford, Kim Painter and her husband Chad of Dalton, and Jill Adcock and her husband Blake of Dalton; cousins and nephews, Mary Helen Humble, Andrew Humble, Jack Humble, Chapman Painter, Landon Painter, Emily Adcock, and Sarah Adcock also survive.

A Memorial Service will be conducted on Friday, March 25th at 1:00 PM at Calhoun First United Methodist Church with Dr. Eddie Herring and Reverend Matt Evans officiating.

The family will receive friends on Friday from 11 AM until the funeral hour at 1 PM at the church.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions be made to the Kate Chapman Memorial Fund c/o The Community Foundation of Northwest Georgia at P.O. Box 942, Dalton, GA 30722-0942 or by phone at (706)275-9117.
