Elizabeth was born just a couple of months before the tragic drowning of her father Lambert "Lant" Ryan, in December 1861. Her mother remarried before long to Martin Finn, and Lizzie and her siblings lived in the Finn House Hotel and continued school in Brooksville.
Lizzie married Thomas McAvoy in Brooksville, Kentucky Oct. 26, 1887. They moved to Fayette Co. and bought a farm north of Lexington where they raised their family of 6 children, Virginia, William, Ella May, Thomas Ann [Tommie], Beatrice, and Hugh.
