James Harrod (or Harwood),
was a soldier before he emigrated to Pennsylvania about 1714. He had served under John Churchill, Duke of Marlborough, in the War of the Spanish Succession against Louis XIV of France.
He was taken prisoner by the French and released probably in a prisoner exchange.
He immigrated to the New World in 1714 with his sons Ambrose, Thomas, and Samuel and settled in Piscataway. His wife, Ann Maria KENT, son John, daughter-in-law Caroline DOWNEY joined him in 1722.
He died in Piscataway, Middlesex Co., New Jersey.
He was married to Maria KENT.
