Lois Ann (Gustin) Alber, 94, of Fort Smith, passed away Thursday, November 3, 2011, in Fort Smith.
She was born on September 24, 1917 in Grand Island, Nebraska, the daughter of John William and Ethyl (Rogers) Gustin.

Upon graduation from Business College, she was employed by the city of Lincoln, Nebraska, until her marriage on July 7, 1940, to Harold Lon Alber. She later worked as assistant registrar at Boone Junior College, Boone, Iowa, and secretary to the director of the YMCA in Cedar Falls, Iowa. She directed choirs in Christian Churches (Disciples of Christ) in Shenandoah, Iowa, Boone, Iowa, and Cedar Falls, Iowa and was an interim choir director in Davenport, Iowa.

Memberships included Y's Menettes, YWCA Board, and the regional women's organization for the church, the last two years as president. Lois Ann was active in several positions in each local church, including serving as president of Christian Women's Fellowship in both Boone and Davenport and chairman of the board in Cedar Falls. She also served on the state board for Church Women United as chairman of the Celebrations Committee.

Lois Ann was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years Harold, she is survived by three daughters Lonette (Ed) Bebensee of Fort Smith, Arkansas, Linda (Bob) Iverson of Alexandria, Minnesota, and Nancy Camardo of Allerton, Iowa, ten grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, one brother Bill Gustin, two sisters, Dona Geerlings and Betty Jane Hamilton, and several nieces and nephews. One brother, Robert Gustin and one sister Betty Jean House preceded her in death.

Her body will be donated to science. Arrangements are under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home.
