B. Dotson Dead.
This community was shocked today to learn that B. Dotson, one of the well known citizens of the town, died this morning at 8:15. Death occurred at the home of his daughter, Mrs. M.C. Simpson of this city. The deceased a few years ago retired from active business because of the condition of his health, being greatly troubled with rheumatism, and traveled considerably trying to find a climate which would give him relief. Sometime ago other complications set in and he went to the home of his son Omer, at Macksville, staying there until four weeks ago when he was brought to the home of his daughter in this city. His condition was so bad before he was brought here that his third child Albert Dotson, came from Pierre, South Dakota, to be at the bedside and has remained here ever since. There was little hope of his recovery and while the end was not expected the shock is nevertheless severe and the bereaved family have the sympathy of the community in this sad hour. He was unconscious the most of the last four days.
The deceased was born in Leavenworth, Ind., January 5, 1837. He grew to manhood there and was united in marriage to Miss Nancy Roberson. Five children were born to them of whom two died in infancy. Mr. Dotson was an old soldier and a member of the local post. He served throughout the was as a member of Company F. 49th Indiana Infantry. In 1884, with his wife and children he moved to this state and resided on a farm on the south side until 1892 when he came to Great Bend to take charge of the Farmers Alliance store established here that year. In 1897 he established the Great Bend Furniture Co. His wife passed away Dec. 15, 1902, and shortly after ill health caused him to turn the management of the store over to his son, Albert.
There are left to mourn his death, three children, Mrs. M.C. Simpson, of this city, Omer Dotson, of Macksville, and Albert Dotson of Pierce, South Dakota, besides a great number of friends and neighbors. Funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon at 2:30 in the Christian church, Rev. Alford, pastor, officiating.
The body will lie in state at the Simpson home Sunday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friends of the family are invited.
