Jacob King was prominent among the early Baptist pastors of Upson County. He was called by the congregation of Thomaston (Bethesda) Baptist in August 1826, serving there until 1853. "He generally preached to four churches, often supplied others on week days and was indefatigable in his efforts in supplying the most destitute neighborhoods with the word of life." King also served the Bethleham (where he was ordained to preach), Fellowship (from 1826 until his death), and Shiloh churches.
