In the 1920's he went to Idaho to look for gold. In Bordeaux, WA he worked for Mumby Lumber Co. as a salesman. He liked to play the banjo and mandolin and was an avid photographer. In the 1950's and 60's he and his second wife Eppy lived in the Seattle area, and during that time he had the E. B. Moline Lumber Co. He made frequent trips to CA during this time period, perhaps taking time to visit his brother Gunner in Los Angeles, or one of his daughters. His daughter Joan thinks that at one time he was in the WA National Guard as a young man.

He and his sister Signie both attended Broadway High School, he from maybe 1907 to 1911.

Addresses for the family include: (1930: N 42nd St); 2233 Federal Avenue, Seattle (where they lived when Joan was born); 19 West McGraw, Seattle ca. 1928 to?; Phinney Ave., Seattle. (Joan started school at Ross Elementary when they lived at this address); after the death of Helen there was a time period when Elvin employed a housekeeper. That was about the time he went gold mining. Joan has memories of him sending them some sugar cookies in the mail--and they were like rocks. He had made them himself. He also sent them some fool's gold. I don't think he ever found any gold.

After he left Bordeaux when the mill closed, Elvin ("Al") worked as a broker (perhaps this is when the E. B. Moline lumber company began?) and he helped supply some of the wood that was used to build Hanford, WA.
