Martha was born about 1790 in Cumberland County, Pennsylvania, the 2nd of 8 children born to Robert and Margaret Stoddard. Her family moved to Moon Township, Allegheny County in the late 1790s or early 1800s. She married Alexander Smith prior to 1815. Known children were: Catherine, James Adam, Margaret, Nancy, and Robert. Martha then married Matthew Patrick about 1830. They had one daughter Elizabeth.
