Chuck Beatty attended Duke University and entered the Pittsburgh Conference in 1937, the same year he married Caroline Amelia Riefle Beatty, and they lived there until he was commissioned into the Navy Chaplaincy in 1942. He met Caroline when they were members of the Duke University Chapel Choir.

Chuck was a career Chaplain and at sea during WWII, serving on various naval destroyers [see photo, second from left, with his brothers-in-law]. Chuck, Caroline and their family of three daughters, were stationed in many places, including Jacksonville, FL.

After leaving active service in 1962, he served as associate pastor at Towson Methodist Church for two years and then was appointed to Lovely Lane Methodist Church in Baltimore City, where they remained until his death just before Easter.

Chuck was a kind man and had a tendancy to use humor where he could. He loved to particularly tell funny anecdotes of his military days and made his relatives laugh all the time.

He died of a heart attack at home.
