Mary Baxter, Crescent, has a Big Birthday, A billboard on SH 74, south of Crescent was erected by Mary Baxter's children, in observance of her 75th birthday. A Sunday afternoon open house in the crescent Legion building afforded an opportunity for many friends to add their personal greetings and congratulations.
Mrs. Baxter came to Oklahoma from Iowa in 1912, living first near Lovell, then at Columbia for 54 years. She was married in 1914,to John Francis Baxter. After his death in 1950, Mary learned to drive a car, at the age of 56.
She was elected president of the first organized Kingfisher county farm women's club at Columbia in 1933, and has been active in the work of that group for 36 years. She also is active in the Rebekah Lodge.
Mary starting counting votes in 1919 when women were given the right to vote and has served as a precinct election inspector since 1929.
Her children are Cleo Alene Neyehmeyer, Mary Ellen Castoria, and Francis delano Baxter. A son James is deceased.
