Joyce was born in Springer Aug. 13, 1939, to Jack and Almedia Hamilton Shannon. She graduated from Central High School in Woodford.
Joyce was a longtime member of Ardmore’s First Baptist Church where she served with the Ushers’ ministry and a volunteer with the Loaves and Fishes Ministry. She was employed at Noble Foundation March 13, 1978, until her retirement Dec. 31, 1998. Her passion was her love for children, especially her grandchildren, and anything in culinary arts. She prepared many tasty dishes.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Gerald Anderson; a brother, Dexter Shannon; and two sisters, Janice Shannon and Sharon Shannon.
She is survived by her husband of 58 years; their children, Slyvester ‘Wayne’ (Jacque) Anderson, Dayna (Leo) Baker, Darrell ‘Bugs’ Anderson Sr., and Sakeitha ‘Peaches’ Anderson; a step-daughter, Shirlene Newton; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; siblings, Floyer (Clyde) Yeldell, Johnny (Cora) Shannon, Barbara (Richard) Jackson, Froncell (Ann) Shannon, Mae Helen (Cornelius) Potter and Emmett (Debra) Shannon; two special sisters-in-law, Elizabeth Anderson and Lonessa ‘Ann’ Scott; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Services are entrusted to the care of Kirk Funeral Home.
Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. today in Kirk Chapel.
