Jim was the youngest son of David L. and Ida Mae Smedley of Maud Oklahoma. He served in the Armed Services as a Private in the 921st Field Artillery Battalion from 12-10-1942 and received an Honorable discharge 24-03-1944. He was in the V.A. Hospital, in Waco Texas as of 03-23-1948 and died 07-22-1955. The Smedleys had already lost six of their children. He was 34 when he died.
