Wilhelmina Howard, longtime Cushing resident, passed away on Tuesday, January 4, 2011 in the Linwood Village Nursing Home at the age of 86 years.

The daughter of the late Otto J. Meyer and Emma M. Ewen Meyer, Wilhelmina was born on Feb. 29, 1924 in Avery, OK.

She was united in marriage to Robert (Bob) Howard on January 13, 1957 in Gainsville, TX. They established their home in Phoenix, AZ, coming back to Cushing in November of 1969, and she had lived here since. He preceded her in death on Dec. 18, 1982.

She had worked in various restaurants in this area, Tulsa, and Phoenix, AZ. She with her husband owned and operated the Black Gold Café and Bob's Grill in Cushing.

Wilhelmina pieced and quilted many beautiful quilts for people all around the state. She loved to cook, bake and be hostess to family and friends. She always had time for coffee and something sweet (she had on hand) for anyone coming to visit. She loved to fish with friends in AZ, gardening, canning, making jelly and preserves which she shared with others. She especially enjoyed flower gardens and always had blooming plants in her home, on her porch, and or in her garden. She also had volunteered on weekly basis to fix hair at Linwood Village giving perms and hair cuts to many women.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters, whom she was really close and spent a lot of time with, Anna Kluck and Marie Oestmann; two brothers, Henry Meyer and George Meyer, and a nephew Gilbert Meyer.

Survivors include several nieces, Carolyn Savage and her husband Ed of Bartlesville, Pat Durheim and her husband Bud of Enid, Henrietta Swarthaut and her husband Ed of Tulsa, Dorothy Gilbreath and her husband Jack of Vinita, Barbara Weintz and her husband Bill of Bartlesville, Maxine Meyer of Cushing, Georgena Boyle and her husband Gary of Stroud, Janice Doerge of Oklahoma City and Joyce Dove and her husband Allen of Seminole; a sister-in-law Lillian Meyer of Cushing; two step-children; several step-grandchildren; one brother-in-law Lindell Hill of Albuquerque, NM, and many dear friends.

Services will be held on Saturday, January 8, 2011 at 10:00 A.M. in the Immanuel Lutheran Church with Pastor Cheryll Armstrong-Kaukis, officiating.

Burial will follow in the church yard cemetery.
