Nevada Crooks Binau, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Stephen A. Douglas Van Dorn, was born in Appanoose County at Jerome, Iowa on May 11, 1889. She passed away at the Wayne County Hospital in Corydon, Iowa on August 17, 1971, at the age of 83 years. three months and six days. On February 14, 1909 she and Francis William Crooks were united in marriage. To this union four children were born. Her husband passed away o September 10, 1947. On May 20, 1956 she was married to Adam Edward Binau. She was also preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, David Abraham and Ernest Eugene, a granddaughter, Verna Jean Long and her husband, Adam E. Binau.
She leaves to mourn her passing two daughters: Mrs. Charley (geneva) Parham of Waterloos, Iowa and Mrs. Ray (Pauline) Middleton of Yale, Iowa; two sons, Cleo C. Crooks of Gutherie Center, Iowa and Francis D. Crooks of Sewal, Iowa; two sisters, Mrs. Rachel Bone of Seymour. She also leaves 15 grandchildren, a number of great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved her.
At the age of 11 she raised a family of six brothers and sisters the youngest being 16 months old. In 1910 she started her own family. Her friends found her to be a devoted and loyal person.
At the age of 71 she confessed Jesus Christ as her Savior and after baptism became a member of the Sharon Baptist Church
