Betty J. Born, 83, village of Cleveland resident, went home to her Lord Thursday, July 14, 2011, at the Sharon Richardson Community Hospice Center in Town of Lima.

Born Dec. 14, 1927, in Town of Centerville, she was the daughter of the late Edgar and Nelda Grotegut Jacobi. She was baptized and confirmed at St. John and St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church in Cleveland. Betty graduated in 1945 from Central High School in Sheboygan.

On April 12, 1947, she was united in marriage to Elmer W. Born at St. John and St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church in Cleveland. The couple resided in the village of Cleveland, and the marriage was blessed with a son. Elmer passed away Nov. 6, 1986.

Betty was employed by The Phoenix Chair Company of Sheboygan, Mathias Dairy of Cleveland and the U.S. Postal Service in Cleveland, where she worked as a postal clerk for 27 years, retiring in 1987. She was a member of St. John and St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church, where she served as the church recording secretary for over 30 years. She was also a member of the church choir for many years.

Betty is survived by her son, Thomas (Nilla) Born, Cleveland; two grandchildren, Rev. Craig (Jennifer) Born, Oklahoma City, Okla.; and Beth (Michael) Heilman, Sheboygan Falls; two great-grandchildren, Kyle and Brooke Heilman, Sheboygan Falls. Also included is one sister, Maureen (Glen) Witte, Mission Viejo, Calif.; and one brother, Edgar (Janice) Jacobi, Northville, Mich.; nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held, 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 19, 2011, at St. John and St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church in Cleveland. Pastor David Endorf will officiate and burial will follow at the Saxon Cemetery in town of Centerville. Friend man call at the church on Tuesday, July 19, 2011, from 8:30 a.m. until the hour of service.

A memorial fund has been established in Mrs. Born's name
