OBITUARY

James R. "Bob" Bement, 78, of DeMotte, passed away at his residence on Tuesday, July 31, 2001.
Born December 9, 1922 in Waubun, Minnesota to William and Flora Shabano. Bement married Lillian A. (Courneya) October 25, 1941 in Chicago, she preceded him on April 12, 1995.
Survived by six sons: George Bement of Minnesota, Roger (Cathy) Bement of Illinois, Brian Bement of Minnesota, Gordon Bement and Tom Bement of Indiana, Joe (Danielle) Bement of Washington; three daughters; Sandra (Jim) Weber of Minnesota, Rose (Warren) Pontow of Indiana and Darlene (Ray) Neher of Michigan; sister, Dorothy Hennessy of Washington, D.C.; 23 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Pat (Glen) Savage of Texas; brothers-in-law, Martin (Pauline) Courneya of Florida and Eugene (Judy) Courneya of Indiana; and his beloved dog "Jackie". Preceded by parents, wife of 54 years, seven brothers and sisters and four infant children.
Visitation at Family Service Funeral Home Todd-Miller Chapel, Demotte, IN. on Saturday August 4th from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Parish Prayer Service 2 p.m. Saturday. Funeral services at St. Cecilia Catholic Church, DeMotte, IN on MONDAY, August 6, 2001 at 10:30 a.m. with Father Paul R. Wicklum officiating. Interment, Cemetery of the Resurrection, DeMotte, IN, with full Military Graveside Rites. Memorials may be made to the donor's favorite Veterans charity.
Mr. Bement was a resident of the city for 25 years and also lived in Hammond. Graduate of Waubun High School in 1939. Electrician with IBEW Local 697, 50 plus years and retired in 1984: U.S. Army Air Corps Veteran as a Bombardier in WW11 "First over Germany", member of St. Cecilia Catholic Church; American Legion Post 440 of DeMotte and VFW Post 11295 Chaplain.
