Katherine Lucinda Adkison, 82, died Monday, March 5, 2001, at Hot Springs County Memorial Hospital. In the last few months she had moved to the Basin Retirement Center.
She was born April 4, 1918, in Thermopolis to Fred and Ina Etta Bayer Hale. She attended school in Thermopolis.
She married George Barber on May 13, 1938. He died on March 30, 1945. She lived in Red Lane, near Thermopolis, worked at the Wyoming Trading Store and cleaned homes.
She married Cleo L. Adkison on Sept. 20, 1951. They lived in Thermopolis until his death in 1996.
Mrs. Adkison was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the Royal Neighbors and the VFW Auxiliary. She served as president of the LDS Relief Society and Young Women's Mutual and was an active visiting teacher.
She enjoyed flowers, gardening and fishing. Her favorite saying was "I was born in Thermopolis, I live in Thermopolis, and I will die in Thermopolis."
She is survived by three sons, Lester and George Irving Barber of Lehi, Utah, and Curtis L. Adkison of Douglas; two daughters, Mary Etta Barber Foster of Basin and Mildred Cartwright of Stockton, Calif.; 22 grandchildren; 38 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands; a sister, Helma Helen Hale; and a brother, Ronald Hale.
Funeral services will be Friday at 2 p.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Thermopolis. Bishop Paul Galovich will officiate. Mortimore Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
