Gottlieb Comnick was born on a farm in southern Russia on November 19, 1859, son of Michael and Anna (Zeller) Comnick. Michael was a native of Russia, and Anna was a native of Germany. Michael and Anna Comnick were the parents of four children, William, David, Christian and Gottlieb (the youngest).
Michael Comnick died on his home farm in Russia in 1861. In 1876 Anna Comnick and her sons came to the United States. Anna Comnick homesteaded a tract of one hundred and twenty-seven acres in Rose Hill township, Cottonwood county, and there she and her sons established their home. Anna Comnick died in 1908.
In 1884, Gottlieb Comnick was united in marriage to Elizabeth Deutschmann, daughter of Edward Deutchmann, and to this union five children were born, Fred W., Bertha, Justina, Gottlieb D. and William E. Gottlieb Comnick, Sr., was the proprietor of a fine farm of two hundred and seven acres in Rosehill township; he was granted a homestead right on April 6, 1891. Gottlieb was a member of the official board of Rosehill township and a township assessor.
Gottlieb and Elizabeth Comnick were members of the German Lutheran church were Gottlieb served for some time as secretary of the congregation.
Gottlieb Comnick, Sr. retired from the farm in 1917. Gottlieb died in Westbrook, December 30, 1944.
