Our husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, David Selfridge Alcorn, 72, left this earthly existence on June 7, 2017. He died peacefully and unexpectedly of natural causes doing what he loved — resting outside and listening to the birds. He is now having a sweet reunion with his brother and his parents.

David was born April 23, 1945 in Richmond, Virginia. Growing up in a military family, he lived and traveled throughout America. His love for the beauty of our country led him to visit many national parks and to every one of the fifty states.

David received his undergraduate degree and Ph.D. from Brigham Young University. Football took him to BYU, where he was baptized a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and met his sweetheart, Jeri Lee Carr. Jeri was the center of his world; they were married on June 22, 1969. His experiences at BYU solidified his unwavering love for Cougar Football.

He spent his career as a professor and consultant, but was always the consummate educator. He was a lifelong learner and voracious reader. His favorite hobby, stamp collecting, reflected his love of history and learning.
David was kind and generous with his time, talents, and, most of all, love. He was a mentor to those he knew and served.

An active member of the Church, David held many callings, but he most valued his calling as a home teacher and youth leader, as they gave him opportunities to create lasting relationships. He never knew a stranger.

But most of all, he loved being a father and grandfather. His children remember he never missed one of their events, and he loved seeing all of his grandkids' performances and activities. He especially treasured one-on-one time with his family members.

David is survived by his wife, Jeri; and children, Kasi Alcorn (Jeremy), James (Marcie), Kari Tuft (Ryan), and Aimee Wagner (Jason). He also is survived by his sister, Melanie Christensen (Clynn). He has twelve grandchildren and one great-grandson who will miss him dearly.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 12, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. in the River Ridge First Ward Chapel, 10124 South 1300 West, South Jordan. Visitations will be held on Sunday, June 11, 2017 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Jenkins-Soffe South Valley Mortuary, 1007 West South Jordan Parkway (10600 South), South Jordan, and prior to the services at the church on Monday from 10:00-10:40 a.m.
Interment at Mountain View Memorial Estates.
