The daughter of Leland Joseph Shelton and Anna Olea Hansen, Ila was born March 20, 1931 in Midvale, Utah.
She was passionate about art, reading, and education. As a single mother, Ila earned a degree in art education and taught at Butler Middle School for seventeen years.
Later in life, she volunteered at the Salt Lake City Public Library and Utah Museum of Fine Arts. She also enjoyed researching her family heritage and was a member of the Utah DUP.
She married the love of her life, Raymond Aldrich, on July 4, 1985. The two traveled the world and grew old together. Some of their favorite travels included Europe, Asia, and China. She especially enjoyed the Russian Ballet and watching the Tango in Argentina.
Ila lived her life with the utmost grace, forgave easily, saw the good in everyone, and helped them to see the good in themselves. She was an inspiration to those who knew her, and will be forever missed.
Ila is survived by her husband of twenty-seven years, Raymond Aldrich; three children, Don Kemp Butterfield (Wendy), D'ann Turner, and Sheila Nelson; three step-children, Richard Aldrich, Karen Mancini (Enzo), and William Aldrich (Karol); fourteen grandchildren; and nineteen great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers and sisters, John Shelton, Donald Shelton, Dora Ann Nelson, Sharon Gay Nangle, and Dale Shelton; and step-daughter, Peggy Aldrich.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 28, 2014 in the Liberty Fourth Ward Chapel, 420 South 800 East. Friends may call prior to the services at the church from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.
Interment at Mountain View Memorial Estates, 3115 East Bengal Boulevard (7800 South).
