WATERVILLE _ Olga Anderson, 89, a longtime Waterville educator, died at Central Washington Hospital on Wednesday morning, April 17, 1996.
She was born on Oct. 30, 1906, at Milton-Freewater, Ore., to John F. and Christina (Petersen) Hansen. Her mother died when she was a year and a half old, and she spent her early childhood in the home of some Danish friends. She attended school at Ferndale, Ore., and graduated from Milton-Freewater High School in 1924. She attended Cheney Normal School and began her career as a teacher at Withrow in the 1925-26 school year.
She married Ardys ''Tim'' Anderson on April 2, 1926, at Mansfield. They continued to live at Withrow until 1942. During the war years she was asked to come back to teaching in Waterville. After two years she returned to Eastern Washington College for several summers to complete her degree in education. She retired in 1969 after teaching fifth grade in Waterville for 24 years.
She was a member of the Waterville United Lutheran Church, the Tabitha Circle of the church and a former member of the Retired Teachers Association, and the Waterville Philomathic Club.
Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Muriel and Jim Horton and Zoe and Elmer Planetz of Waterville; a brother, Elmer Hansen of Corvallis, Ore.; a sister, Hilda Dickerson of Colville; four grandchildren, Mike and Tim Horton, Craig Planetz and Jill Schultz; and a great-grandson, Christopher Schultz. She was preceded in death by her husband, Tim, two brothers and a sister.
Arrangements are by the Waterville Funeral Home.
