Mary Alcarita Sánchez, age 82, passed away at her home in Chamisal, NM, on Friday morning, August 18, 2017.
Mary "Alcarita" was born on August 22, 1934 to Juanita García in Chamisal, NM.
Alcarita was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Benito Sánchez, son, Benito Sánchez Jr., daughter, Benita Sánchez, her mother, Juanita García, brother, Aurelio Garcφa, special aunt, Anastacia García and uncle, Frutoso García, great-granddaughter, Breandra Peña, sisters-in-law, Lydia Rivera and her husband, Lalo Rivera and Josie Luján and her husband, Ben Luján, brothers-in-law, Alfonso Ulibarrí, Gilbert Sánchez and Isidro Sánchez and many other aunts, uncles and cousins, including her special cousin, Rudolfo Romero who recently passed.
Alcarita is survived by her daughters, Becky Fernández (Boyd Barela), Eutimia Visarraga (Wayne) and Victoria Sánchez (Rowdy Torres), sons, Arturo Sánchez, Rudy Sánchez and Federico Sánchez (Marylou), brother, Max García (Sandy), sisters-in-law, Rita Sánchez, Bertha Ulibarrí, Stella Sánchez and Celina Sánchez, brother-in-law, James Sánchez (Maria Theresa), granddaughters, Melissa Romero, Edwardine Fernández (like a daughter), Matilda Fernández, Athena Sánchez (Lorenzo Garcφa), Amanda Sánchez, Chenoa Sánchez, Keioma Visarraga (Cody Sandoval) and Anja Sánchez, grandsons, Louis Fernández (Leslie), Alex Visarraga (Desiree), Christopher Visarraga (Alicia McCaulley) and Amadeus Sánchez and 15 great-grandchildren and many other relatives.

Mary loved God and lived her life accordingly. Mary was a devout Catholic and devoted over 50 years teaching religious education in her community. Mary loved her family and friends. Mary Alcarita will be missed by many!
A Rosary will be prayed this Sunday, August 20, 2017 at 7:00 p.m. at Rivera Family Funeral Home of Española, NM. On Monday, August 21, 2017 Mary Alcarita Sánchez will be taken to Peñasco where visitation will begin at 5:30 p.m. at San Antonio de Pauda Catholic Church followed by a Rosary that will be prayed at 7:00 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, August 22, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at San Antonio de Pauda Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Chamisal Community Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Louis Fernández, Jacob Visarraga, Edwardine Fernández, Demetrius Fernández, Matilda Fernández, Keioma Visarraga, Danny Fernández and Donovan Fernández. Honorary Pallbearers are Max García and Riqué Fernández.
