J.D. MATCHETT DEAD
J.D. Matchett, an old settler in Bullard township, died at his home last Sunday afternoon, April 10th, 1904, after suffering with a complication of diseases for about a year, during the last four or five months being bedridden. Funeral services were held at the school house in Bullard Monday afternoon, and on Tuesday the remains were taken to Batavia for burial. A number of his old neighbors and friends were present at the funeral, which was conducted by Rev. G.L. Hunt of this place.
Deceased was born in Indiana on June 19th, 1854. He came to Minnesota when a young man, and about 25 years ago he was married at Long Prairie to Miss Candis Kenney. They lived in this county until about 12 years ago, when he took up a homestead in Bullard township, and that place was his home until he was called to his eternal home. He had made his peace with God and was prepared to go when the summons came. He leaves his wife and one sister, Mrs. Wm. Sly, who resides at Latona, in Hubbard county. Word was sent to the latter, but she did not get it in time to be present at the funeral.
Mr. Matchett has always been a good citizen and neighbor, and many friends will mourn his loss. Mrs. Matchett has the sympathy of all in her bereavement.
Mrs. Matchett will will probably sell off the stock, rent the farm and reside with her mother in Batavia.
